Course Overview

This course meets the standards of the Dental Board of California (DBC) for a comprehensive review of the California Dental Practice Act (CDPA). All licensed dental professionals are mandated by the California Code of Regulation 1600 to receive instruction before each license renewal period. The course covers basics about the governing board, statutory mandates about the scope of dental practice for auxiliaries, laws governing the prescription of drugs, mandatory state and national associations interpretations for dental professionals. This course also includes the most recent 2016 updates from the Dental Board. The DBC publishes a compilation of the Dental Practice Act and related laws, which can be ordered from the Board directly. This course is suitable for all members of the dental team.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Understand and summarize the role of the Dental Board of California.
  • Understand elements of licensure.
  • Describe enforcement ability of the Dental Board.
  • Know the basics of laws about prescription medications.
  • Understand diversion programs.
  • Identify who are mandated reporters of abuse, violence, neglect.
  • Discuss basic ethics related to dental practice and the law.
  • Know the scope of practice for auxiliaries, like direct and indirect supervision of clinical tasks.

Do I have to wear scrubs?

Yes, it is a requirement to follow OSHA guidelines. ALL students must wear a lab coat, mask, and uniform scrubs, top and bottom (no t-shirts or jeans are accepted) and tennis shoes (dress shoes are not acceptable) to attend class, NO exceptions. If requirements are not followed you will be rescheduled for a following date.

Fulfills the California Dental Board biennial requirements for relicensure. Reviews statutes of the Dental Practice Act including license renewal requirements, use of auxiliaries in a dental practice, scope of practice for auxilliaries and dentists, citations, fines and disciplinary actions.

COURSE COMPLETION

All courses must be completed within 30 days of the start date. This includes all required documents and a copy of a valid American Heart Association or American Red Cross BLS CPR card only. Extension fee will apply on day 31. Courses not completed on time will be closed and be retaken at full course price. Previous paperwork or course patient work will not carry over.

*All students must be at least 16 years of age.

*This course requires a valid CPR card by either, only, American Heart Association BLS or Red Cross BLS. The Dental Board is very strict, so no others can or will be accepted.
